Unbelievable

Filed under: Uncategorized — boykin lucas @ 3:10 pm

This is unreal. I saw this article on the BBC and it is totally unreal.  It talks about an uncontacted indigenous tribe in Brazil…they took photos of them from the air to prove their existence (I guess that they’re in a very, very remote region of the rain forests there…anyway these people went so far as to largely disappear after seeing the plane.  Later, on another pass, the men were painted up and went so far as to aim and fire arrows at the aircraft.

I mean can you imagine seeing an airplane and not having a clue as to what it is…  “What is that man?”  “I don’t know…some kinda giant bird.”

Anyway, check out the article….CRAZY.

Quiet in Clemson.

So things have been pretty quiet in Clemson the last couple of days…pretty reduced compared to the rest of the school year.  The good thing is that that makes it easier to get out on the bike for some good training–if there’s nothing else to do.

Anyway, yesterday was still alright.  I just chilled for most of the day and then went out on  a 3 hour ride with Adam DeWitt (a friend and cyclist/triathlete). It was great to be back on the local rodes.  The cycling community in Charlotte is GREAT but sometimes there no replacement for narrow low traffic roads (even if the local populace isn’t always friendly).  For some reason the local past-time seemed to be driving around the (busted ass) pickup with something in the back.  Oh yeah, and we definitely saw the Amy Winehouse of trailer trash chicks…go figure.  (Wish I had a picture–but doing so would have certainly ended VERY badly).

And upon getting back I was sitting around reading the NYT (unfortunately over a week old, but who cares) and having a post-ride snack when my roommate, his girlfriend, and four of the girls, from various colleges, she works with rolled up.  They–the four chicas–thought the pink lycra was great…it was maybe a little surprising to them. Particularly when I got up to greet them and they saw huge rip (close to my crotch) on the side (training shorts).  I hadn’t really given it any thought..but they thought it was funny.  Like XYZ only way better…

Anyway, they weren’t much fun actually…my roommate Mike is a great guy but not always the most exciting.  They were just going to sit around and play beerpong–and evidently not for too long either–all were gone when I got back.  Anyway,  I ended up going to see Obsession Day–a cover band out of Atlanta who are friends of a friend at Wild Wings and then, later, went downtown for a little bit.  Turned out to be a fun night.

Oh and the 133 bridge is back (kinda) open…it’s mostly cemented now and you can sneak across it on your bike if you’re quick…but there’s a step-off and some loose dirt on the far side.  DeWitt and I were rushing across it when he hit the loose dirt and busted ass.  It was hilarious…because he went down really hard!  But the dirt was so soft (read: fluffy) that it didn’t matter.  Like landing in a pile of leaves.  So it looked sweet and he didn’t get hurt at all…

Hilarious, huh?  I’m definitely guilty of perusing the Onion frequently and their candidate profiles (and other stuff) was just way too funny for me not to post.

And news from school…

4.0 biatches…pardon la francais de moi.  No really…I found out recently and was completely thrilled.  I pulled off the trifecta this year: had fun, raced my bike (a lot), and made good grades.

It was even more thrilling b/c I wrote a term paper for my Irish History class in 3 hours –started at 830 and finished at1130 (it was due at 12) the day after the Greenwood race.  I was pretty wrecked (literally–bad road rash) and just churned out the bs.

On another note –Prof Silvestri– on the offhand chance (little to none) that you’re reading this: it’s too late to change grades! But I did like your class.
