Terrible Day in Greenwood
So after a terrible day of racing in the downtown Greenwood cycling classic I can report in as having flatted twice (both front and rear), crashed once, and gotten a LOT of road rash. Pretty bad considering I felt pretty good during the race and was sitting in the front 1/3 or so when the crash happened–even more frustratingly, with about 10 laps (about .6-.8 miles apiece) remaining in the in 90 minute race. So after crashing–I went to the pits–got a neutral wheel (a Zipp 404–pretty sweet–and at this point I had two of them on the Airo) and took off. Incidentally it was the last lap you could get free; with 8 to go when I rolled off. But, one lap later, I was back in again with another flat. Game Over. Must have been some glass or something on the course.
But, on the upshot, I did get a chance to hang out with a friend from back home–she goes to Lander, in Greenwood–after the race. Really the only positive spot–for me, personally–in a pretty awful day. Crashing and finals; all in the same day.
Anyway, sorry for the rant of sorts. Just had to vent some frustration after a rough day in the saddle (and classroom for that matter; honestly who really likes taking exams?) But, stayed tuned for another update tomorrow with the race in Spartanburg.
